Getting to JX Bear Lake Ranch

The Bear Lake Valley is where JX Ranch began over a century ago. It is where we call home and where our cattle are for summer grazing. We have two locations at JX Bear Lake that welcome riders during the summer months both of which are within 45 minutes of Bear Lake’s recreational center.

Montpelier Canyon Forest area (Whitman Hallow Campground on the map) is ideal for any rider that wants a genuine cowboy experience.  The landscape is rugged and beautiful and with the number of cattle here you’re sure to round up and even “cut” cows.  Green Canyon Forest Area (Crossley Hollow on the map) is perfect for a scenic cowboy experience. While you push cows to water or different pasture areas you’ll get to experience breathtaking views overlooking Bear Lake.

The Riding Trails at JX Bear Lake

The Forest areas of Green Canyon and Montpelier Canyon are home to our mother cows and calves for summer grazing, but they are also ideal for an authentic horseback experience.

Learn to Ride Like a Cowboy

When you show up, we’ll match you to your horse based on your riding level and desired experience. We have horses of various breeds, sizes and dispositions.  Each Cowboy Experience at JX Ranch begins with instructions for saddle and tack as well as time to get acquanted with your steed.

A Customized Riding Experience

At JX Bear Lake we know that no two riders are exactly the same. For beginning riders, we will help and instruct you on proper riding technique until you feel comfortable leaving the corral area. For more advanced riders, our seasoned cowhands will provide techniques and advice to help you become a true JX Bear Lake Cowboy or Cowgirl.

The Ranch at JX Bear Lake

The forest grazing areas of Montpelier Canyon and Green Canyon are home to our mother cows and calves for summer and fall grazing. The foothills and mountains of southeastern Idaho provide ideal conditions for our young calves to grow and develop. During this time of year, riders can push cows to water or preferred grazing areas as well as check on the well-being of the herd.

The Cowboy Experience provides riders with opportunity to learn western techniques for riding as well as cutting and driving cattle. Each cattle drive begins with with a roundup where we gather the cow and calf pairs that need to move. Cattle drives at JX Bear Lake not only provide a genuine cowboy experience, but riders will also be traversing beautiful mountain landscapes.
